Why do people live unhealthy lifestyles?

One reason is that people just do what they want.  Many people don’t like exercising so they simply won’t do it, without recognizing the effects it could have.  They like wating the sweets that are there favories, so they’ll just continue to eat them, again, wihtout thinking of the results.  Another reason is that we are becoming such a fast-paced society that many people don’t have time for a good, healthy home-cooked meal, or maybe not even time for exercising.

Isn’t it a lot of work to exercise?

Of course it is work to exercise.  That’s what makes us healthier–the work is good for your heart.  It takes effort, but the easiet way to make exercising not feel like work is to find something you love to do and do it!  Play soccer, play racquetball, go swimming.  There are many options to make the work a lot more bareable.

Doesn’t eating healthy take a lot of time?

It takes time at the beginning because you’re learning how to plan meals and learning what is an isn’t healthy.  But there are many quick and healthy recipes, so once you’re use to it, it doesn’t take much more time than before!

Is obesity really that big of a deal?

Obesity is considered an epidemic in these days, because it is such a big deal!  Anything that causes increases in heart disease, diabetes, cancers, and other things is extremely important and shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Can’t I just do one of those fast diet programs instead of learning about being healthy?

Fast diet programs are readily available if that is the course you choose.  However, they don’t last long because they are focused on losing weight.  Although it’s great to be skinny, there are many people that are skinny and are still unhealthy.  Another negative is that once you lose the weight you want, you usually stop and eventually will gain it back.  The benefit of learnign about helathy lifetstyles is that they help you change habits, so that you can be healthy for a long time!

Aren’t there other aspects to being healthy besides eating right and exercising?

Of course there are other aspects!  There are many environmental aspects that are important to consider as well.  There is also the topic of mental health. 

What about things I can’t control?

The physical environment is one thing that we can’t control that certainly effects our health.  It’s imprtant to not be discouraged by the things you can’t change.  We just need to conrol the things we can, and do as much as possible for the things we can’t, knowing it’s not our fault.

Isn’t eating helathy usually expensive?

It is true that fruits and vegetables and many other healthy things are sometimes expensive.  However, the extra money spent at the grocery store is usually worth not having to pay medical bills if you don’t eat healthy and are diagnosed with diabetes.  Being healthy also usually increases productivity, so you may be getting a raise too!  :)

Are gym memberships expensive?

Depending on what gym you want to go to, they can sometimes get pretty expensive.  Different gyms cost different amounts, so look for the best deal!  However, it’s also important to realize that you don’t need a gym membership to exercise.  You can walk or run outside, and if it’s cold, many people walk around the inside of malls!

How long does it take to become healthy?

Becoming helathy is a process, definitely not achieved overnight.  However, more important than a standard of being healthy is the process you go through and becoming healthier as time goes on.  Don’t be in a hurry, and know that it takes different people different amounts of time to develop helathy habits.
